Days on your feet in healthcare, retail, manufacturing or the classroom can leave you with back pain or a nagging work injury, and long commutes are hard on your neck. If you hike the Fay-Luther trails, walk or bike the Martin Slough Trail or train for the Freedom 5K, we can help you stay active.
Dr. Emma Freeze has a special interest in prenatal and pediatric care, and Dr. Joel Mackes loves helping active patients get back to the things they enjoy. New patients can start with our new patient special. Book your first visit, and if it’s winter, check conditions on Kingsbury Grade before you head over.

Local, family-focused care
Care that fits life in Gardnerville
Gardnerville began as a stop for freight teams and grew into a farming town, shaped by the Danish settlers and Basque sheepherders who arrived in the late 1800s. That history still shows along Main Street (US 395), from the Overland Hotel and the J.T. Basque building to the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in the old 1915 Douglas County High School. Today the town and its neighbors, from the Gardnerville Ranchos to Ruhenstroth and Fish Springs, are home base for many people who work in healthcare, retail, manufacturing and the schools, or who commute to Carson City or up Kingsbury Grade to jobs at the lake. Long days on your feet, lifting and repetitive work add up. We'll be upfront: our office is about 37 minutes away, over Daggett Pass and down into South Lake Tahoe. If you already make that drive for work in Stateline, or you're up at the lake for a day outdoors, a visit fits naturally into your day.
Life in the valley is active, too: walking or biking the paved Martin Slough Trail past the Gilman Ponds, hiking the Fay-Luther trails in the Carson Range foothills, running the Freedom 5K at Heritage Park or joining the crowds at Lampe Park for Carson Valley Days in June. Dr. Joel Mackes shares that love of the outdoors and the mountains, and he is passionate about helping patients move better and stay active. For families, Dr. Emma Freeze brings a special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care. She is certified in the Webster Technique and is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, so parents, kids and grandparents from Gardnerville can all be cared for in one place. That is what chiropractic & whole family wellness means to us: helping every generation live life to the fullest.
What we help with
How we can help Gardnerville residents
Back pain from long days on your feet
Healthcare shifts, retail floors, manufacturing work and school days mean hours of standing and lifting. We look for what is really straining your lower back.
Learn more →Repetitive work strain
The same motions day after day, on a production line or stocking shelves, can leave you sore and stiff. We help with the aches and strains that build up on the job.
Learn more →Neck pain from the commute
Whether you drive north to Carson City or over Kingsbury Grade to the lake, time behind the wheel can leave your neck and upper back tight.
Learn more →Trail and running injuries
From the Fay-Luther trails in the Carson Range foothills to the Martin Slough Trail and the Freedom 5K, we help active valley residents recover and keep moving.
Learn more →Pregnancy and growing kids
Dr. Emma Freeze has a special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care and is certified in the Webster Technique.
Learn more →Whiplash after a car accident
US 395 runs right through town, and winter storms bring chain controls to Kingsbury Grade. After a collision, we offer gentle care for whiplash.
