Chiropractor serving Genoa, NV
Whole-family chiropractic care for Genoa
About 34 minutes (19.8 mi) from our South Lake Tahoe office
Genoa sits at the foot of the Carson Range, and its Main Street still holds Mormon Station State Historic Park, the Courthouse Museum in the 1865 Douglas County courthouse and the Genoa Bar & Saloon, billed as Nevada’s oldest thirst parlor. Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic is about 34 minutes away: south on Foothill Road past David Walley’s Resort, where David and Harriet Walley opened a hot springs hotel and spa in 1862, then up Kingsbury Grade and into South Lake Tahoe. We’re glad to care for people from Genoa Lakes, Sierra Shadows, Eagle Ridge, Jacks Valley and Mottsville.
The Eagle Ridge Loop holds the least winter snow of the Genoa trails, which makes it a year-round ride, and a full round at Genoa Lakes adds its own walking miles. Wellness care visits can fit around both, and when sciatica or nagging back pain lingers, spinal decompression, a hands-on flexion-distraction method we use only for the low back, is another option. Steep miles in Genoa Canyon or on the Sierra Canyon Trail can be rough on your knees; tell us which trail you’re training for and we’ll factor it into your chiropractic care.
Genoa’s Candy Dance started in 1919, when homemade candy and a town dance raised money for the streetlights, and the town still holds it every September. Little ones and moms-to-be can see Dr. Emma Freeze, whose special interest covers pregnancy and pediatric care, while Dr. Joel Mackes helps active people work toward getting back out on the trails and slopes. When you schedule your first appointment, mention our new patient special, and give yourself the full 34 minutes over the grade.
Proudly serving: Historic Genoa and Main Street, Genoa Lakes, Sierra Shadows, Eagle Ridge at Genoa, Jacks Valley, Mottsville.
Local, family-focused care
Care that fits life in Genoa
Genoa began in 1851 as Mormon Station, a trading post on the Carson Route of the California Trail, and Nevada State Parks calls it Nevada's first permanent, non-native settlement. The unincorporated Douglas County town counted 1,343 residents in 2020 and rests at 4,807 feet, right where the Carson Range rises from the western edge of the Carson Valley. Census figures put Genoa's median age in the 60s, so keeping your body working well matters here, whether that means a round at Genoa Lakes, a ride up the foothill trails or a day of chores on a Jacks Valley horse property. The largest groups of working residents are in manufacturing, professional and technical services, and transportation and warehousing, and most errands and workdays mean time in the car. Reaching us is its own run: south on Foothill Road past the Walley's hot springs, then up and over Kingsbury Grade, about 19.8 miles in all. Genoa Lakes golfers who already head up Kingsbury for a lake day can line up a visit with that trip.
Genoa takes its outdoor life seriously. The Genoa Trail System packs about 16 miles of challenging terrain, from the tight switchbacks in the lower half-mile of Genoa Canyon to the Sierra Canyon Trail, which climbs nearly 4,000 feet to the Tahoe Rim Trail. Hikers share those trails with horseback riders, mountain bikers and dogs, the Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes Golf Club rolls through about 300 feet of elevation change, and mountain grit runs deep here: Snowshoe Thompson, who carried the mail over the Sierra on homemade skis, is buried just north of town. Dr. Joel Mackes, a mountain and snow lover himself, wants every patient to move better and stay active, and Dr. Emma Freeze, with her special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care, looks after expecting moms and the youngest members of the family. Whether your week runs from the Eagle Ridge Loop to the back nine at Genoa Lakes, our job is to help you keep doing it.
What we help with
How we can help Genoa residents
Staying limber as the years add up
Half of Genoa's residents are over 60. Regular wellness visits can be one part of a routine that keeps you moving for golf, the trails and life around the house.
Learn more →Lower back strain from the golf swing
Rotating through a swing, then walking a hilly layout like the Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes, puts real load on the lower back. We check how your hips and spine are sharing the work.
Learn more →Knee pain on steep descents
Genoa Canyon's tight switchbacks and the long Sierra Canyon climb are hard on knees, especially on the way back down. We help hikers and riders keep using the trails they love.
Learn more →Sciatica from saddle time and ranch chores
Long rides on the foothill trails and the daily work of keeping horse property along Jacks Valley Road can aggravate the lower back and the sciatic nerve.
Learn more →Neck tension from driving everywhere
Most errands and workdays in Genoa mean the car, whether it's US-395 to Carson City or Foothill Road down the valley. Holding the wheel mile after mile can leave the neck stiff by the time you park.
Learn more →Care for expecting moms and little ones
Pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care are Dr. Emma Freeze's special focus. She is Webster Technique certified and belongs to the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.

How far is Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic from Genoa?+
About 19.8 miles, or roughly 34 minutes in good conditions. Take Main Street south out of town onto Foothill Road (NV-206) and follow it about 5.6 miles to Mottsville, then turn right onto Kingsbury Grade (NV-207) and climb over Daggett Pass to US-50 in Stateline. Turn left on US-50 and continue into California. Our door is on the left at 3121 Harrison Ave, right after the turn onto Alameda Ave. Kingsbury Grade is maintained year-round, but when chain restrictions are in effect, Nevada lets only 4WD or AWD vehicles with snow tires, or vehicles with chains, proceed, and in major storms NDOT can shut the grade's Carson Valley side. The alternate is Genoa Lane to US-395, north to Carson City, then US-50 over Spooner Summit, where the same traction rules can apply between Carson City and Glenbrook. Check nvroads.com before you leave, and dot.ca.gov for the short California stretch.
Do you see patients from Genoa?+
Yes. We welcome patients from all around Genoa, from the historic district along Main Street to Genoa Lakes, Sierra Shadows and Eagle Ridge, plus neighbors up in Jacks Valley and down Foothill Road in Mottsville. No referral is needed to see a chiropractor in California, so Nevada residents can simply call or request a visit.
Who are the doctors I might see?+
One of our two chiropractors will look after you. Dr. Emma Freeze, DC, brings a special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care. Dr. Joel Mackes, DC, is all about helping patients move better and stay active, and when he's not at work, his loves are the outdoors, off-roading, the mountains and anything involving snow.
Is there someone who works with kids and pregnancy?+
Yes, Dr. Emma Freeze. Pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care are her special interest, she is Webster Technique certified, and she belongs to the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. Children's visits are adapted to their age and size, and prenatal chiropractic is complementary care that works alongside, not instead of, your obstetric care provider.
How do I book an appointment?+
Give our office a call, or use the Book an Appointment page to request a time. First-time patients can ask about our new patient special. Booking in late September? The Candy Dance, held each year on the last full weekend of September, closes streets in and out of Genoa during the day (about 7am to 7pm), so plan around the festival weekend.
