Whole-family chiropractic care for Johnson Lane
About 47 minutes (29.1 mi) from our South Lake Tahoe office
Johnson Lane fans out east of US-395 on the Carson Valley’s east side, a rural-residential corner of Douglas County where the road itself runs about four miles before the pavement ends at the foot of the Pine Nut Mountains. Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic is about 47 minutes away in South Lake Tahoe, and our two chiropractors care for every age in the family, whether you live along Stephanie Way, on Vicky Lane or out near East Valley Road.
Keeping up a big lot can leave you with nagging back pain, and a day on the sandy OHV trails past the end of Johnson Lane can leave your neck feeling every bump. Care begins with a conversation and a full chiropractic exam, so your chiropractic care fits what we actually find. If low-back pain keeps hanging on, ask about spinal decompression, a low-back technique our chiropractors perform by hand with gentle flexion-distraction, and we can help pickleball players, ballplayers and riders stay active.
Chiropractic & whole family wellness is what we’re about. Dr. Emma Freeze has a special interest in prenatal care and pediatric care, so parents, kids and grandparents can all be cared for under one roof. If you’re new to the practice, our new patient special is a good place to start. When you’re ready, request your first visit, and on stormy winter days check Kingsbury Grade on nvroads.com before you head up.
Proudly serving: the Stephanie Way corridor, Vicky Lane, Johnson Lane east of US-395, East Valley Road north of Eldon Way, the east end of Johnson Lane near the Pine Nut foothills.
Local, family-focused care
Care that fits life in Johnson Lane
Johnson Lane is an unincorporated community on the east side of the Carson Valley, home to 6,409 people at the 2020 Census and sitting at about 4,820 feet. It more than doubled in twenty years, from 2,551 residents in 1990 to 6,490 in 2010, and many homes sit on large lots, often an acre or more along Johnson Lane itself. Mail here is addressed to Minden, NV 89423, but with the Pine Nut Mountains rising just past the last houses, it feels a long way from downtown. Rural-residential life keeps people busy: looking after the property, running kids to and from Piñon Hills Elementary, and the daily drive out to US-395. About one in ten adults here is a veteran. The average commute from Johnson Lane is about 23 minutes; reaching us takes roughly twice that, about 47 minutes and 29 miles, west across the valley on Muller Lane and Foothill Road, then up Kingsbury Grade over Daggett Pass. If the lake, the slopes or an errand at Stateline already has you heading up the grade, plan your visit for that same day and save yourself a second trip.
Outdoor life here starts where the pavement ends. About four miles east of US-395, Johnson Lane turns to dirt at BLM land, where sandy, novice-friendly OHV trails and steep hill climbs spread across the foothills and Sunrise Pass Road leads past Painted Rock and over the Pine Nut Mountains. Closer to home, Johnson Lane Park on Stephanie Way has a big ball field, a basketball court, tennis and pickleball courts and a playground. Off-roading is one of Dr. Joel Mackes's own pastimes, so riders who spend a weekend on those foothill trails will find a chiropractor who knows the appeal, and in the office his focus is keeping patients active and moving well. Parents-to-be and families with little ones can see Dr. Emma Freeze, a Webster Technique certified chiropractor and International Chiropractic Pediatric Association member whose special interest is care during pregnancy and childhood. With two chiropractors sharing one office, a grandparent with a stiff back, a teenager with a sore ball-field shoulder and a toddler can all get care in the same place.
What we help with
How we can help Johnson Lane residents
Low-back strain from property upkeep
Many Johnson Lane homes sit on big lots, and keeping up that much ground means plenty of lifting, bending and hauling. Your exam looks at how the lower back, hips and pelvis move together when you lift.
Learn more →Neck jolts from off-road riding
The sandy trails and hill climbs at the BLM's Johnson Lane OHV area are a lot of fun, and a lot of bouncing. A bumpy day on the ATV can leave your neck and upper back stiff.
Learn more →Shoulder strain on the courts
Pickleball and tennis on the Johnson Lane Park courts, or a season on its softball and baseball field, put repeated stress on the shoulder. We look at the whole chain, from the neck to the shoulder blade.
Learn more →Sciatica and time behind the wheel
Most errands from Johnson Lane begin with the run out to US-395. Time in the car, from that daily drive to the climb up Kingsbury Grade, can aggravate nerve pain that runs down the leg.
Learn more →Gentle care for growing kids
Recess at Piñon Hills Elementary and games on the Johnson Lane Park ball field bring their share of tumbles. Pediatric chiropractic care is a special interest of Dr. Emma Freeze, who tailors each visit to a child's age, size and comfort.
Learn more →Winter-road and highway collisions
NDOT posts chain controls on Kingsbury Grade during storms, and even the valley stretch of US-395 has had them. After any crash, get checked for whiplash and related neck and back injuries.

How far is Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic from Johnson Lane?+
About 29.1 miles, or roughly 47 minutes in good conditions. From Stephanie Way, take US-395 South, turn right onto Muller Ln (NV-757) to cross the valley, then turn left onto Foothill Rd (NV-206) and head south to Kingsbury Grade (NV-207). Climb over Daggett Pass, turn left onto US-50 at Stateline and follow it into South Lake Tahoe, then turn right onto Alameda Ave. Our office at 3121 Harrison Ave is on your left. In winter storms, NDOT posts chain controls on Kingsbury Grade, and during those chain controls only 4WD or AWD vehicles with snow tires may go without chains; every other vehicle has to chain up. The grade has also closed outright in major storms, as it did for about two days after the New Year's Eve storm of 2022-23. The alternate route is US-395 north to Carson City and US-50 west over Spooner Summit, which can have chain controls too, so check Nevada 511 at nvroads.com before you leave.
