Whole-family chiropractic care for Gardnerville Ranchos
About 38 minutes (21.8 mi) from our South Lake Tahoe office
Gardnerville Ranchos sits at the south end of the Carson Valley, with NV-88 along its western edge, about three miles south of central Gardnerville, and Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic is roughly 38 minutes away over Kingsbury Grade. From the Ranchos, the trip starts with a run across the valley floor on Kimmerling Rd and Centerville Ln to Foothill Rd, then climbs Kingsbury Grade over Daggett Pass and follows US-50 about 3 miles into South Lake Tahoe. If you live closer to Main Street, our Gardnerville page has directions from there.
With half of Ranchos residents past their mid-40s, a stiff lower back or neck pain can get in the way of yard work, time with the grandkids and the long drives that come with valley life. Chiropractic care here begins with a careful exam and a plan built around how you move, and for lingering sciatica or low-back pain, our spinal decompression is a gentle, hands-on flexion-distraction technique for the lower back.
Weekends at Ranchos Aspen Park and school days on Long Valley Road keep families busy, and we care for every generation. Dr. Emma Freeze’s special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic makes our prenatal care and pediatric care a natural fit for Ranchos families, and wellness care can be one part of staying active for parents and grandparents alike. If it’s your first visit, our new patient special is an easy way to begin: book an appointment online, or read more on our new patients page.
Proudly serving: the original Ranchos Units 2 through 7, Country Club Estates, Ranchos Estates, Pleasantview and Silver Ranch Estates, Sunburst and Hidden Creek, Rocky Terrace, Cedar Creek and Rainshadow Ranch, neighboring Centerville.
Local, family-focused care
Care that fits life in Gardnerville Ranchos
In the mid-1960s, C.E. 'Red' Swift owned a large tract of Carson Valley land he wanted to build homes on. Douglas County required municipal water and paved roads before homes could go in, and when Minden and Gardnerville refused to annex the land, the county created the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District in 1965 to provide them. That district still looks after the Ranchos' water, sewer, streets and its own parks and open space today. Unit by unit, from the first numbered subdivisions to Ranchos Estates and newer neighborhoods like Rocky Terrace and Cedar Creek, the Ranchos grew into an unincorporated community of 11,318 people at the 2020 Census. A good part of the day here is spent in the car: Census Bureau estimates put the average one-way commute at 28.6 minutes, whether the drive is north to work in Minden and Gardnerville or up Kingsbury Grade to the resorts at the lake. Plainly put, the trip to our office is about 38 minutes and 21.8 miles, over Daggett Pass and into South Lake Tahoe.
Away from the commute, Ranchos life happens close to home. Ranchos Aspen Park has four baseball diamonds, a soccer field, sand volleyball and two playgrounds. Mitch Drive Park adds a fishing pond first planted with rainbow trout in 2013, a bike park and a basketball court striped for pickleball. The school day centers on Scarselli Elementary and Pau-Wa-Lu Middle, side by side on Long Valley Road. The community spans every age, from young families to retirees, and caring for all of those ages under one roof is how we put our purpose, helping every generation live life to the fullest, into practice. For expecting parents and kids, Dr. Emma Freeze is Webster Technique certified and has a special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care; for anyone who wants to keep moving, Dr. Joel Mackes, a lover of the outdoors, the mountains and anything snow-related, is passionate about helping patients move better and stay active. Together, that is what we mean by chiropractic and whole-family wellness.
What we help with
How we can help Gardnerville Ranchos residents
Neck tension from the daily drive
Whether the daily drive is NV-88 north to Minden and Gardnerville or the climb up Kingsbury Grade, all those miles at the wheel can leave the neck and upper shoulders tight.
Learn more →Low-back pain and sciatica
The Ranchos has a median age of 46.3 (Census estimates), and low-back stiffness and sciatica, with pain that can travel into the buttock and leg, tend to become more common as we get older. We look for the source and use a gentle, hands-on approach for the lower back.
Learn more →Ball-field, volleyball and pickleball strains
Between the baseball diamonds, soccer field and sand volleyball at Ranchos Aspen Park and the pickleball court at Mitch Drive Park, weekend games keep joints busy. Our athlete care can help you keep playing.
Learn more →Growing kids on the go
For families with kids at Scarselli Elementary or Pau-Wa-Lu Middle, Dr. Emma Freeze has a special interest in pediatric chiropractic and uses gentle, age-appropriate techniques.

How far is Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic from Gardnerville Ranchos?+
About 21.8 miles, or roughly 38 minutes in good conditions. From the Ranchos, take Tillman Ln to Kimmerling Rd and follow it to NV-88 North, then take the 3rd exit at the traffic circle onto Centerville Ln. Turn right on Foothill Rd (NV-206), then left onto Kingsbury Grade (NV-207) and cross Daggett Pass, at about 7,340 feet, down to US-50 in Stateline. Turn left onto US-50, follow it about 3 miles into South Lake Tahoe and turn right onto Alameda Ave; our office at 3121 Harrison Ave is on your left. NDOT often posts chain controls on Kingsbury Grade in winter, and when they're on you must carry chains unless you're driving a 4WD or AWD vehicle with snow tires. Big storms can still close the grade, as NDOT warned it might on the Carson Valley side ahead of a major storm in late February 2024, so check nvroads.com and allow extra time.

Yes. We welcome patients from all over the Ranchos, from the original numbered Units and Country Club Estates to Ranchos Estates, Pleasantview, Sunburst, Hidden Creek and newer neighborhoods like Rocky Terrace and Cedar Creek, as well as neighbors in nearby Centerville. If you already drive Kingsbury Grade for work in Stateline, our office is about 3 miles farther along US-50.
Who are the chiropractors at Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic?+
Our team is two chiropractors. Dr. Emma Freeze, DC, brings her special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care to expecting moms, babies and kids. Dr. Joel Mackes, DC, is passionate about helping patients move better and stay active, and outside the office he loves the outdoors, off-roading, the mountains and anything snow-related.
Do you care for kids and pregnant moms from Gardnerville Ranchos?+
Yes. Pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care are a special interest of Dr. Emma Freeze, who is certified in the Webster Technique and is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, so Ranchos families can bring expecting moms, babies and school-age kids to one place. Prenatal chiropractic care complements, and does not replace, your prenatal medical care.
How do I book an appointment?+
You can request a time online through our Book an Appointment page, or give our office a call. First-time patients can ask about our new patient special. Driving over in winter? Check NDOT's conditions for Kingsbury Grade before you leave and give yourself extra time.
