Whole-family chiropractic care for Indian Hills

About 43 minutes (27.4 mi) from our South Lake Tahoe office

Right where US-395 leaves Carson City for Douglas County, Indian Hills spreads from Sunridge Heights and the streets around Valley Vista Park to the Jacks Valley side of the highway and the Topsy Lane corridor. Families from every part of it are welcome at Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic, on Harrison Ave in South Lake Tahoe, and the drive follows the same US-50 route as from Carson City.

Daily miles on US-395 can leave you with a stiff neck, and a weekend of disc golf or court sports at James Lee Park can stir up back pain. Our chiropractic care is shaped to your body and your goals rather than a set routine. When the lower back is the problem, our spinal decompression is a gentle, hands-on flexion-distraction table technique, not a machine, and wellness care helps you stay ahead of stiffness instead of waiting for pain.

If you hike, bike or ride the Clear Creek Trail, we can help you recover between long climbs toward Spooner Summit. For expecting moms and young kids, Dr. Emma Freeze brings a special interest in prenatal care and pediatric care. Your first visit can start with our new patient special, so book an appointment whenever you’re ready, and in winter, check nvroads.com before heading over Spooner Summit.

Proudly serving: Sunridge Heights, Jacks Valley, the Valley Vista area, the Topsy Lane corridor, neighboring Clear Creek Tahoe.

Local, family-focused care

Care that fits life in Indian Hills

Indian Hills is an unincorporated community of 5,962 people (2020 Census) at the north end of the Carson Valley, straddling US-395 just south of the Carson City line. It sits entirely in Douglas County, even though mailing addresses read Carson City, NV 89705, and its water, sewer, streets and parks come from the Indian Hills General Improvement District, formed in 1973 to build a regional water and sewer system so the area could keep growing. Daily life here runs along US-395: Indian Hills is a bedroom community between Carson City and Minden, and Census Bureau estimates put the average commute at about 20 minutes. That spot on the highway also makes the trip to our office easy to plan. From most of Indian Hills, the US-50 turn at the south end of Carson City is only about 2 miles up US-395, and from there a single highway carries you to the lake, about 43 minutes in all. A visit fits naturally into a day you're already spending up at Tahoe.

Indian Hills also has serious trail access right in the neighborhood. The Clear Creek Trail leaves the James Lee Park Trailhead at about 4,800 feet and climbs roughly 22 miles, mostly at an easy-to-moderate grade, reaching a high point of 7,270 feet about a mile before Spooner Summit. The newer Jacks Valley Loop and James Lee Loops round out a 30-mile system shared by hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and dogs, and the lower miles usually melt out fairly quickly after storms, so they're often usable in winter. Closer to home, James Lee Memorial Park has ball fields, a soccer field, tennis and basketball courts, a skate park and what the IHGID calls the first disc golf course in the Carson Valley, while Valley Vista Park looks south across the valley between the Carson Range and the Pine Nut Mountains. A trail that climbs for 22 miles, and whose lower miles are often walkable in winter, rewards hips, knees and a back that move well in every season, and keeping you out on it is a goal our two chiropractors share. Dr. Joel Mackes, a lover of the mountains and anything snow-related, puts his energy into helping patients move better and stay active. Pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care is Dr. Emma Freeze's special interest.

What we help with

How we can help Indian Hills residents

Neck tension on the run into Carson City

Indian Hills sits right on US-395 at the Carson City line, so the drive north is short but often repeated twice a day. Even short stints at the wheel, stacked up over a week, can leave your neck and shoulders tight.

Wellness care through every decade

Indian Hills' median age was 48.5 at the 2020 Census, a quarter of residents were 65 or older, and about one in eight adults is a veteran (ACS 2024 estimate). Regular wellness visits are a proactive way to keep tabs on how your body moves, rather than waiting until something hurts.

Back strain from disc golf and court sports

The rotating throws on the disc golf course at James Lee Park, and pickup games on its tennis and basketball courts, ask a lot of your lower back.

Long climbs on the Clear Creek Trail

Hiking, biking or riding toward Spooner Summit means hours of steady climbing at around a 5% grade. Our athlete care supports trail users who want to recover and keep going.

Active kids and growing families

Between the skate park, playground and ball fields at James Lee Memorial Park, local kids stay busy. Dr. Emma Freeze has a special interest in pediatric and pregnancy chiropractic care.

Care after a highway collision

US-395 carries Indian Hills' daily traffic, and winter storms can bring NDOT chain controls over Spooner Summit. If you've been in a collision of any size, a careful exam can check for whiplash and other neck or back injuries.

Yes, and we'd be glad to see you. Indian Hills patients are welcome from every corner of the community, whether you live in Sunridge Heights, near Valley Vista Park, on the Jacks Valley side west of US-395 or along the Topsy Lane corridor. Your mail may say Carson City, NV 89705, and you're just as welcome either way.

Who will care for me at Tahoe Chiropractic Clinic?+

Two chiropractors practice at our office. Dr. Emma Freeze, DC, has a special interest in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care. Dr. Joel Mackes, DC, cares most about helping patients move better and stay active, and his own free time goes to the outdoors, the mountains, off-roading and snow.

Do you offer care for children and expecting moms from Indian Hills?+

Yes. Expecting moms and kids are Dr. Emma Freeze's special interest; she's Webster Technique certified and an ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) member. Prenatal chiropractic care is complementary care and does not replace prenatal medical care, so please keep your obstetric care provider in the loop.

How do I book an appointment?+

Pick a time on our Book an Appointment page or give our office a call. Plan your first visit around a trip up to the lake if that's easier, and mention that you're new so we can set you up with our new patient special. No referral is needed to see a chiropractor in California.
